Qualification Information

Along with other industry recognised bodies, we are committed to a best practice approach regarding appropriate qualifications in the electrical installation sector.  We make use of industry and government approved apprenticeship framework agreements, recognised legacy qualifications and the application of the National Occupational Standards by accredited awarding bodies to inform our views on these matters.

The SparkSafe Electrical Licence to Practise system has been designed to inform Clients of the identity and occupational competency of electrical workers who are trained, assessed and qualified specifically in electrical installation practice.  Other electrical qualifications including those from the engineering sector are not sufficient to support an application for a Qualified Electrician’s licence (QE).  For example, vocational electrical maintenance qualifications at Level 2/3 will not be considered suitable.

If you completed your training prior to 1999, you are likely to have followed the industry approved apprenticeship training programme. If this is the case, then the final Apprenticeship Deeds or Industry Approved Apprentice Completion Certificate will need to be provided as part of the evidence for a QE licence.  The table below sets out the technical qualifications that may have been completed as part of the industry approved apprenticeship programme.  Please note that technical certificate(s) on there own do not meet the full requirements for a QE Licence.
