We were delighted to see the winners of the Electrical Safety Roundtable Above and Beyond Awards (ABA) announced earlier this week.

The Above and Beyond awards were created to recognise and celebrate individuals and organisations who go above and beyond their legal duty as they strive to enhance and improve electrical safety in the workplace. The ABA are about more than that simply winning an award. They present an opportunity to share best practice, learn from others, and improve electrical safety, ultimately helping to save lives.

The Awards were open to all individuals & organisations with a notable interest in electrical safety. The judging panel had a difficult job on their hands, applications were varied but the judges concluded the following worthy winners, as well as two highly commended awards –

·  Product of the year – LINIAN for their NanoClip™
·  Electrical Safety Initiative of the year – South Tyneside Homes for their Post Occupancy Electrical Safety Check
·  Changemaker of the year – Louise Adamson for her tireless promotion of electrical safety and raising awareness of safe isolation practices
·  Derek Thompson Industry Service Award – Gary Hayers for his GSH Electrical YouTube channel

The judges also awarded Mark Allison “Highly Commended” in the Changemaker of the Year category for his commitment to Apprentice 121 and believe housing in the Electrical Safety Initiative of the Year category for their electrical safety week initiative.

We would like to say a massive well done to all four winners, not forgetting the two highly commended awards. What an amazing achievement, keep up the good work!

The ETT NI/SparkSafe LtP team were over the moon when the ESR came up with the idea to launch the Derek Thompson Industry Service Award.  We felt this was such a fitting way to help keep Derek’s memory alive and recognise his commitment and contribution to the industry.

We couldn’t agree more with the judges that Gary Hayers is a very worthy recipient of the award. For those of you who haven’t seen his GSH Electrical YouTube channel, it’s well worth a visit!  The channel is a hugely popular and highly effective online resource for learners, with over 113,000 subscribers and 700 training videos. It’s also very fitting that Gary met Derek at an industry event in 2018 and holds him in the highest regard

We are all so proud to see Derek’s legacy remembered and want to personally congratulate Gary Hayers on his award.  This a special award for the ETT NI/SparkSafe LtP team, as well as Derek’s family. Gary’s dedication and commitment to the industry is clear and is to be commended. A huge asset to the electrical industry.

Thank you to the Electrical Safety Roundtable and the all of the judges – Paul Skyrme,  Frank BertiePaul MeenanLouise Adamson and Chris Pack who had a tough job on their hands. We look forward to the launch of the 2023 awards!
