As part of the #Safe4September initiative, we’ve pulled together some useful resources to emphasise the importance of following safe isolation practices. Together, we can help improve safety and potentially save lives.

🔧 Useful Resources 🔧

1. Professional Electrician & Installer Magazine: a leading industry publication for electrical professionals. PE continues to keep the safe isolation awareness message prominent in every issue of the publication that they produce.

The September edition features an article by Peter Monfort BSc MIET, who asks whether professionals really do understand the complexities of safe isolation and identifies some ways you can protect yourself from electrical shocks. Read it here: https://issuu.com/hamervillemediagroup/docs/professional_electrician_september_2024/21

Additionally, the Electrical Safety First ‘Safe Isolation Procedure Flowchart’ features prominently as part of the issue’s ‘CPD Zone’ section.

2. Electrical Safety First (ESF): a campaigning charity that aims to reduce deaths and injuries caused by electricity in UK homes. They provide free expert advice and information on all the technical issues involved in electrical installation work and have developed a number of electrical safety best practice guides including the Safe Isolation Best Practice 2 Guide – access it here https://www.electricalsafetyfirst.org.uk/professional-resources/best-practice-guides/

David Powell CertED MIET and Richard Harvey MSET Cert Ed will discuss safe isolation at the ETT NI Stay Connected NI Industry event on 27th November 2024. For more info and to book your space: https://www.ett-ni.org/course-finder/stay-connected-2024-ni-industry-event/

3. eFIXX: is a leading multi-media platform that offers free online Safe Isolation training to keep electricians updated and maintain important CPD records. Access the training here: https://training.efixx.co.uk/course/safe-isolation#/home

4. Electrical Safety Roundtable (Secretariat) (ESR): ESR advocates for a lock-off kit as the sixth essential item of PPE for electrical workers to mitigate electrocution risks. Check out their best practice guide: https://www.electricalsafetyroundtable.co.uk/downloads.aspx

We would encourage everyone to get behind the #Safe4September campaign and continue to promote the importance of safe isolation.

Please share this information and resources. Sharing knowledge and following the correct procedures could be the crucial difference between someone returning home from work at the end of the day or not. We all have a role to play! 🙌
