Following consultation with CPD and feedback from employers, we have determined to review the entry criterion for a Licence.
The reason for doing so is to address concerns by those employers who experience annual difficulty in recruiting and retaining new apprentices.
Demographic trends and competition from other industry sectors has reduced the availability and interest of suitable candidates for apprenticeship training.
Recruitment and training of new apprentices remain the best and preferred solution for the industry. However, demand for services also places an obligation on the industry to respond and adapt to the reality of prevailing circumstances.
We are therefore amending the employment verification criterion from five years to two years. The revised entry criterion will be effective from 1st July 2019.
