Main Contractors

Electrical Licence to Practise is about improving quality and productivity by only contracting with those electrical contractors who employ electrically competent workers.  Most main contractors are obliged to operate on a trust basis concerning the composition of the appointed electrical contractor’s workforce.  A focus on Health and Safety at the gate has displaced the vital attention to electrical skills, qualifications and competencies.  This often means that there are less “go to” qualified workers and more unqualified or underqualified workers appearing on the job.  As a result, a corresponding decrease in quality and standards and an increase in incidents of snagging, delays and commissioning difficulties often follow.

The LtP system provides the main contractor with an unique online Workforce Composition Report (WCR), setting out the makeup of the electrical contractor’s workforce by licence type from contract commencement through to commissioning and final handover.

A free online electrical worker identity and competency verification service for main contractors forms part of the LtP proposition.  If you are paying for competent electrical workers, you should be able to prove it to yourself and to your customers.

How to Apply

Step 1: Create an account

The first step is to create an online account. To do this, you must have a valid email address. You will also be required to provide your business details, primary contact details, as well as creating a username and password. For security purposes, a validation email is sent to the email address that you provide. You will not be able to proceed to the online application until you have completed this step.

Step 2: Complete the online application

The online application should take around 10 minutes to complete. You will be required to provide business details such as your Registered Business Name, Trading Name, Business Type and Company Registration Number.

Step 3: Submit your online application

Once you have completed the application process, you should review the information you have provided to ensure it is correct and accurate. Please note that the Main Contractors are not required to pay an annual fee to SparkSafe.

Step 4: SparkSafe LtP registration approved

All registered Main Contractors will have their current registration details uploaded to the SparkSafe website. A list of all registered Main Contractors are listed here
